As a teacher union, one of our most powerful tools for creating change is our collective voice. By engaging with our elected officials at both the state and federal levels, we can advocate for the policies and funding that our schools, our students, and our profession need to thrive.
On this page, you'll find links to contact information for our US Senators and Representatives, as well as our Michigan State Senators and Representatives. We encourage you to use these links to:
Share your experiences and expertise: As educators on the front lines, you have invaluable insights into what's working in our schools and what needs to change. Share your stories and perspectives with legislators to help inform their decision-making.
Advocate for specific legislation: When bills are introduced that would impact education, use these links to voice your support or opposition. Explain how the proposed legislation would affect your classroom, your students, and your working conditions.
Request meetings: Reach out to schedule in-person or virtual meetings with your legislators or their staff. This is a great opportunity to build relationships, discuss issues in depth, and make your voice heard.
Invite legislators to visit your school: Help your representatives understand the realities of education today by inviting them to tour your school, sit in on a class, or attend a school event.
Participate in lobbying days and other union-organized advocacy efforts: Our union organizes regular opportunities for members to meet with legislators and advocate for our priorities. Use these links to follow up on those conversations and continue building momentum.
Remember, your representatives work for you, and they need to hear from their constituents to do their jobs effectively. Every email, call, or meeting makes a difference. As a union, we are strongest when we raise our voices together, so please take a few minutes to reach out and let your legislators know what matters most to you as an educator.
